In partnership with the N.C. Dept. of Insurance, CAAA works with individuals who are either on Medicare or know someone who is to ensure they are aware of the multiple benefits associated with it.
N.C. SHIIP has certified volunteers in your county that can answer questions about:

  • Parts A & B
  • Supplement Insurance or “Gap” Plans
  • Advantage Plans also called Part C
  • Prescription Drug Plans (Part D)
  • Fraud and Abuse
  • Long Term Care Insurance

Centralina specifically conducts community training events promoting awareness of the Part D program and “Extra Help” to people on OR soon to be on Medicare.

If you or someone you know pays more than $7.00 per month for a prescription drug, and you have a low income, you MAY be eligible for Extra Help from Social Security.

SENIOR MEDICARE PATROL

All people with Medicare should know how to protect themselves from potential fraud and abuse.  Over 60 Billion dollars a year are scammed from the program.

Three steps to making yourself safe:

  • Protect – keep your Medicare number safe by not sharing it or carrying it around in your wallet unless you are going to visit a health care provider
  • Detect – always read your summary statement and match the dates and types of service to a journal or other paperwork you keep to record the visit
  • Report - problems with your summary statement, or billing regarding Medicare can be reported to the Senior Medicare Patrol office to have someone help you get answers
