Frequently Asked Questions
What is VDC?
- Designed to help Veterans of all ages remain safely in their homes
- Especially beneficial for individuals at risk of placement in a long-term care facility
- Provides a monthly budget to manage long-term services and supports
- Allows the Veteran to hire, schedule, and supervise their own caregivers including hiring family members, friends, or professional caregivers—giving Veterans greater control over who provides their care
Where to Begin
The program is available to Veterans of any age who are enrolled in the VA health care system and meet the clinical criteria for long-term services and supports. To get started, Veterans are encouraged to speak with their social worker or primary care provider at their local VA Medical Center. These providers can help determine eligibility and guide Veterans through the enrollment process.
