Protecting Residents’ Rights in Care Centers

When you have a concern or complaint about the care or quality of life for yourself or a loved one living in a nursing or adult care home setting, it’s important to have a reliable resource to turn to. The North Carolina Regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program’s mission is to protect residents’ rights and improve the quality of care and life for residents in long-term care facilities. We provide access and advocacy services to help people protect their health, safety, welfare and rights. The program provides information about the long-term care system and helps people access services.

The program’s responsibilities include:

  • Advocating for residents
  • Investigating concerns
  • Mediating disputes
  • Providing information about long-term care
  • Promoting elder abuse awareness
  • Monitoring long-term care facilities
  • Educating the public
  • Managing the community advisory committee volunteers

Training & Education

Ombudsmen provide current, meaningful training and in-services to facilities and others in the community. Many sessions are at no cost to the facilities we work with. We do offer a variety of three hour up to all day courses for a minimal charge and can partner with other aging professionals to tailor specific training to meet your needs. For a list of class topics, descriptions or to request additional information, complete the request an in-service form.
