Who We Are
Centralina Area Agency on Aging supports and improves the lives of people in our region through advocacy, direct services, county partnerships and programming that promote aging with choice, dignity and independence.
Who We Serve
We help older adults and people with disabilities in Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union Counties.
What We Do
Our purpose is to plan, develop, coordinate and deliver various long-term services and support tailored to the needs and preferences of people in our nine-county region, creating a delivery system that meets each community’s needs.
We help by:
- Administering and monitoring federal and state funding to local aging service providers in the region
- Advocating for older adult issues on a local, state, and federal level
- Providing education to aging service providers, older adults and the community at large regarding aging issues
- Advocating for residents in skilled nursing and assisted living homes through the Ombudsman Program
- Directing services to address unmet needs in the region
- Connecting people to services and support in their community
Our History
The enactment of the Older Americans Act (OAA) in 1965 mandated Area Agencies on Aging in every state. In 1971, N.C. Governor Robert W. Scott released an Administrative Directive placing Area Agencies on Aging within already designated regional planning organizations. Centralina Area Agency on Aging is part of Centralia Regional Council, one of 16 leading regional planning organizations.
